Old Irish Meetinghouse/Presbyterian Church of Deep Run
Bedminster Township, Bucks County
Traveling along Rt 113 in Bedminister, you'll want to take note of the Irish Meetinghouse/Presbyterian Church of Deep Run. This site recants the history of Scots-Irish immigrants settling in Bedminster in the 1730's.
The first church building was likely built on the site as a log structure in 1730. As the congregation grew and needed a larger sanctuary, a lottery was raised to build a stone meetinghouse and parsonage. The lottery proved successful and, in 1771, a new stone church was built, complete with a walnut pulpit and sounding board. By 1840 though, the stone meetinghouse was in such poor condition that it was taken down and a new Colonial-style meetinghouse was built. A historical marker on the church that reads "Rebuilt in 1841" commemorates this event. In 1958, when the church needed more space for Sunday school classes, it purchased Pennridge School District's 1868 Colonial-style Red Schoolhouse.
