Souderton Train Station
Welcome Center
The Caboose Grill at the Souderton Train Station is the Welcome Center for the Telford and Souderton Borough region of the Route 113 Heritage Corridor Tour.
All aboard for one of the best meals in town in one of Souderton's most familiar landmarks! Come to the Caboose Grille in the Souderton Train Station. The depot dates from 1927 when the Reading Railroad built the handsome Colonial Revival building to serve as Souderton's main passenger station. It replaced a dilapidated structure as old as the first railroad through here. That was the North Pennsylvania Railroad, which in 1857 laid tracks to connect Philadelphia with the Lehigh Valley coal region. The railroad also brought industry to Souderton—first cigar and later textile manufacturing, The Reading Company leased the North Pennsylvania line in 1879 and operated it until declaring bankruptcy and merging with Conrail in the 1970s.
The restored train station opened as the Caboose Grille in 1999. The local bistro-style restaurant features traditional cuisine and signature specialties. Stop by for a weekend breakfast. Enjoy a casual, yet elegant lunch or dinner (any day except Mondays). And while you're savoring the fine food and atmosphere, just imagine what it was like to see and hear the trains clanging by during the age of coal and industry.
